Positive Grid AI Drums, "The World's First Artificial Intelligence Drum App" by House of Noise

"AI Drums will be your best songwriting partner. With a few finger taps, it quickly learns your song structure, BPM, and music style. You can even change the feel of each drummer depending on your personal taste."

Positive Grid, known for its BIAS range, has announced its new project, AI Drums, making use of the "latest AI technology".

What Does AI Drums Do?

The software listens to you play and works out drum patterns that best suit your composition. The more you use the software, the more it adapts and learns your preferences. It uses the cloud to offer up drum patterns created by professionals, as well as those created by other Positive Grid users, all available to preview and download!

Can I Customise the Drums?

With thousands of drum kits available to download, you can change every drum component. As well as the virtual kit, you can change mic models and placements, room control, preamp and more. You can even go into further customisation of the pattern, BPM, EQ, genre, structure, and more.

When will the AI Drums app be available?

Unfortunately, we only know that AI drums is coming soon, but you can sign up for updates from the sites here and join the beta program for a free preview. It looks like potentially a very useful tool to help the songwriting process!

Sennheiser announce world's first VR dedicated microphone: AMBEO VR Mic by House of Noise

VR is here, and this year has seen the release of increasingly affordable VR headsets for home consumers. If you're into VR you'll know that a lot of virtual reality products are specifically aimed at video, with very little reference to audio. So at the moment the creation of VR audio is a fiddly process to create the ambisonic sound.

This mic, however, is constructed exactly with ambisonics in mind, fitted with four matched KE 14 capsules in a tetrahedral arrangement. This special design allows you to capture surround sound from a single point. For play back the audio is rendered binaurally, allowing you to virtually rotate the orientation of the perspective in all directions. The mic has 4 XLR outputs and comes with dedicated software for you to create the mix.

What is ambisonic audio?

Ambisonics is a full-sphere surround sound technique: in addition to the horizontal plane, it covers sound sources above and below the listener.

Unlike other multichannel surround formats, its transmission channels do not carry speaker signals. Instead, they contain a speaker-independent representation of a sound field called B-format, which is then decoded to the listener's speaker setup. This extra step allows the producer to think in terms of source directions rather than loudspeaker positions, and offers the listener a considerable degree of flexibility as to the layout and number of speakers used for playback.

Ambisonics was first developed in the UK in the 1970s by the British National Research Development Corporation

How much does the AMBEO VR Mic cost?

The first AMBEO mic will RRP at $1,649.95. So better start saving up if you see your future VR audio production! For more info check the Sennheiser site here: AMBEO VR MIC

Amazon Music Unlimited by House of Noise

Amazon Music Unlimited

Amazon have launched their new streaming service, Amazon Music Unlimited in the US. It's set to compete with rival streaming giants Spotify and Apple Music.  Amazon's entry into the world of streaming isn't new. Prime members currently have access to Amazon Music which has a limited catalogue of tracks, so the addition of Unlimited will hopefully mean more music will become available!

How Much Does Amazon Music Cost?

It is priced at $9.99 pm for regular users and $7.99 pm for Prime users, similar to their competitors. The most interesting aspect of this new service is the "for Echo" subscription priced at $3.99 pm.

Amazon Echo Integration with Amazon Music

Amazon's smart speaker Echo, powered by Alexa, lets you use the subscription with voice controls. Not only does it use simple voice commands to playback specific artists and bands, it becomes more personalised over time. Alexa can play songs from a certain decade, genre or playlists based on your listening history. It can even playback a song if you only know the lyrics, for example, "play the song that goes .. "

What New Features does Amazon Music have?

Although the service has a focus on the Echo hardware, its features are fairly familiar to those that use other streaming services. It supports offline listening and works with any Amazon Music compatible device. The app has a new look, including a "Recommended" section with personalised suggestions and the "Now Playing" section will feature synchronised lyrics.

What is Amazon Side-by-Side?

Amazon Music Unlimited is offering a unique feature called Side-by-Side. It syncs artists' commentary with tracks from their catalogues. If you're familiar with streaming films and TV shows on amazon you'll know that a similar function is found on certain productions. This is how Amazon described the new side-by-side feature:

"Amazon Music on Alexa also brings fans and artists closer together with behind-the-scenes artist commentary about their music, called Side-by-Sides. Customers can simply ask, “Alexa, play Side-by-Side with OneRepublic” and Ryan Tedder will play and comment on songs from OneRepublic’s latest album Oh My My. Side-by-Sides are available exclusively on Amazon Music from top artists such as The Chainsmokers, Jason Aldean, Lindsey Stirling, Norah Jones, OneRepublic and Kongos – with more being added all the time."

Apple Music Unlimited is set to come to Europe later this year.  Go the Amazon Music website to learn more: AMAZON MUSIC
